Team owner Brad Jones has praised the contribution that Cameron McConville has made to his V8 Supercar team.
Jones told Speedcafe today that McConville has been “an important part of the resurrection of BJR and I’m grateful that he’s got us back to where we want to be.”
McConville announced yesterday that he would retire from full-time V8 Supercar racing at the conclusion of this season, concentrating on a new business venture, his increasing media commitments and his young family.
McConville races the WOW Racing Commodore for Brad Jones Racing, and the team owner says that McConville is leaving the sport at the right time and for the right reasons.
“I think that Cam has made the right choice. I think he’s at point where he’s ready for a new direction in his life, and he’s going out on top,” Jones said.
“He finished second at Bathurst, he’s extremely competitive in the V8 Supercar field at the moment and there’s some who don’t have the ability to leave when they’re going well.
“I think he’s excited about his new direction. He wants to make it work and he’s put a lot of thought into it.
“For BJR, it’s sad to lose him, but it’s great that he knows what he wants to do and where he’s going.”
